Ben & Jerry’s have just launched a new social campaign highlighting the importance of World Fair Trade Day. Called “Fair Tweets“, the campaign leverages your unused twitter characters as messages, hash tags and links to help promote World Fair Trade Day… And depending on how many characters you have spare in each tweet, the Ben & Jerry’s Fair Tweets app automatically generates a relevant message to fill that space, and is then posted with each of your tweets!

Last week Aden posted a nice like campaign from Orange ‘Predict-A-Chick‘ and this week they have just launched My Royal Plate which is a fun little campaign that takes advantage of the hype surrounding the pending Royal Wedding. The campaign invites users to Tweet a special un-royal moment that they would like to remember to the hash tag #MyRoyalPlate. The best ones then get turned into plates and posted to the lucky plate creators. This is another part of Orange’s ‘The Feed’ which is a series of internet adventures. I love the fun and creative ideas that Orange are using in these little campaigns. A nice idea from the guys at Poke London.

Over in the UK Carlsberg has kicked off their new campaign with a couple of pretty big 3D projection mappings. The first being on the iconic White Cliffs of Dover and the second on the face of the famous Liverpool Street Station.
This is part of the launch of a global digital campaign for its new brand positioning, it’s Carlsberg’s first global digital initiative and features content for YouTube and Facebook, all echoing the new tagline, ‘That Calls for a Carlsberg.’
On the Carlsberg YouTube channel the TV ads and other video clips produced for the launch are available, along with the YouTube Takeover experience. On Facebook Carslberg have gone for somehting a bit different with an app that invites users to type in a transmission, upload a photo – and send a message to your mates from the moon using text-to-voice and face mapping. Check it out here.

This is the latest social infographic out from website-monitoring and this time it’s on twitter, with the statistics rounded up during the month of April this year. Some of the latest stats show a 55% female skew and primarily 18-34 age distribution at about 45% of all tweeps!
Some of the more interesting stats show that 41% of people haven’t tweeted since signing up, while 75% of tweets come from 3rd party applications or mobiles. 10pm – 11pm is the most popular time to tweet and there are 640 tweets per second.
What a year it’s been in the land of social, and in particular, Facebook & Twitter. I won’t bore you with the 1000 statistics every one of you already knows about the growth of Facebook and Twitter this year, but I will show you this nice little infographic from Digital Surgeons, showcasing the breakdown of the 2010 social demographics on Facebook and Twitter, ready for a huge 2011.
At first glance there isn’t a lot in this, but I think it’s interesting t note that 67% of people on Twitter follow a brand (that they will purchase) in comparison to only 51% on Facebook, yet on Facebook 40% of all people follow a brand in comparison to Twitter’s 25%.
